Reducing agent; used for preparation of organozinc reagents, Reformatsky reagents, and the Simmons Smith reagent; Zinc-mediated cross-coupling reactions, e.g. the acylation of alcohols, amines, thiols, ylides, the synthesis of carbamates, and Friedel-Crafts acylation of electron rich arenes.
