8-Mercaptoguanosine is used to stimulate gene activation; in CD38-activated B cells it induces activation-induced cytidine deaminase (AID) expression. 8-Mercaptoguanosine is also used as an inhibitor of enzymes such as GTP cyclohydrolase I.
