Components Composition:Neutral red 1.0 g/l, Acetic acid 2 ml/l in water General description Well developed granules of volutin (polyphosphate) may be seen in unstained wet preparations as round refractive bodies within the bacterial cytoplasm. With basic dye, they tend to stain more strongly than the rest of the bacterium, and with methylene blue solution (Fluka 01363) they stain metachromatically, a reddish purple color.
Application Useful as an indicator for preparing neutral red paper, and as a biological stain. Packaging 25 g in glass bottle Suitability Certified for use in the method of Doan & Ralph for the supravital staining of living blood cells.
A hydrochloride obtained by combining the free base of neutral red with one equivalent of hydrochloric acid. Neutral red acts as a pH indicator, changing from red to yellow between pH 6.8 and 8.0.
